about

When I interviewed Malcolm Andrews he described himself as ‘The Last Apprentice’ and expressed some sadness at this fate. He spoke with great fondness of his own mentor and appeared to have found solace in his teaching role at a local college since the factories closed – such was the weight of responsibility he felt to pass on the skills of the craft.

lyrics

The last apprentice there’ll be no more
Thinking of those who’ve gone before

I’m the last apprentice, not the worst
Can’t help wondering
Who was the first?

Does he know I’m thinking of him long dead?
Thinking of his hands his heart and his head

I'm the last apprentice the last apprentice
There’ll be no more
