Thin Blue Line (acoustic)

from Reflections On The Glass Age (acoustic) by Dan Whitehouse

/

about

“Antarctica has many bodies buried within the ice (some from over two hundred years ago), which slowly move towards the sea within the glacial flows. I’d become aware that it had been noted that a thin blue line will appear just beneath the surface of the ice, indicating a void below.  This is often the last thing people see before they die there. It’s a metaphor for going to visit my son in Japan and losing my identity as a musician, as I knew I would be unable to work there. I was facing a personal void, I could see my identity disappearing into oblivion.” Dan

lyrics

Thin Blue Line

Will I be caught frozen, buried in this ice forever? Koorini tsukamari, eien ni umoreru darouka

A freeze frame locked in my endeavour Doryokude rokkusareta kootta fureemu

In this bleak yet pristine land at the edge of the earth
Chikyuuno hashiniaru kurai tetsukazuno tochide

So warm within these sheets of ice. Aisu shiitono nakawa totemo atatakai

Must I emerge? Arawarenakereba ikenainoka?

At least I’ll go out smiling Sukunakutomo egaode dekakeru

as I face the void Kyokyuuni chokumen surutoki

Here in the best place in the world, beside you Konosekaide saikouno basho, anatano sobani

A thin blue line of ice, a warning sign
Hosoi koorino aoi rain, keikoku sain

Still I don't think twice and start to count as you run and hide
Soredemo watashiwa nidoto kangaezu, anataga hashitte kakureruyouni kazoehazimeru

On a good clear day the space between us is perfectly filled
Watashitachini hasamareta haretahino kuukanwa, kanzen ni mitasareru

By the tall shard soaring high on the other side of the world Sekaino hantaigawani takaku sobieru seno takai hahen ni yotte

May your heart grant you the courage to see Anatano kokoroga mirutameno yuukio ataete kureruyouni

We’re merely two oak beams, drifting towards the sea
Watashitachiwa umini mukatte tadayouyouni honno ookuno harini suginai
